Moments in the Time andPolynomial - Based Transform

| Expressions for the rst-and second order moments of the energy distribution function of a signal in the original and the polynomial-based transform domain are derived. It is shown that these moments can be calculated without actually performing the transformation. It is argued that these results can be used to obtain compact signal-dependent transforms.

Wavelet transform based fast approximate Fourier transform

We propose an algorithm that uses the discrete wavelet transform (DWT) as a tool to compute the discrete Fourier transform (DFT). The Cooley-Tukey FFT is shown to be a special case of the proposed algorithm when the wavelets in use are trivial. If no intermediate coe cients are dropped and no approximations are made, the proposed algorithm computes the exact result, and its computational comple...

Multiscale wedgelet image analysis: fast decompositions and modeling

The most perceptually important features in images are geometrical, the most prevalent being the smooth contours (“edges”) that separate different homogeneous regions and delineate distinct objects. Although wavelet based algorithms have enjoyed success in many areas of image processing, they have significant shortcomings in their treatment of edges. Wavelets do not parsimoniously capture even ...

On Fractional Fourier Transform Moments Based On Ambiguity Function

The fractional Fourier transform can be considered as a rotated standard Fourier transform in general and its benefit in signal processing is growing to be known more. Noise removing is one application that fractional Fourier transform can do well if the signal dilation is perfectly known. In this paper, we have computed the first and second order of moments of fractional Fourier transform acco...

Wedgelet Enhanced Appearance Model

Statistical region-based segmentation methods such as the Active Appearance Model (AAM) are used for establishing dense correspondences in images based on learning the variation in shape and pixel intensities in a training set. For low resolution 2D images this can be done reliably at close to real-time speeds. However, as resolution increases this becomes infeasible due to excessive storage an...
